In this tutorial you’ll set up your own website using a “one click” StudioPress theme install pack
Most web hosts will help you set up WordPress on your hosting account. If WordPress is not automatically installed for you, or if you have problems, contact your hosting provider and they’ll be happy to help you.
Before you start, make sure you’ve downloaded your theme zip files from your my.studiopress.com account. And make sure you know where you saved them on your computer. You’ll need those zip files in this tutorial.
Watch this video first…
Setting up your site with an install pack is quite easy. Watch the video first, then if you get stuck, use the screenshots below.
Once WordPress is set up you need to log in.
Type your website URL in the letterbox and add /wp-admin to the end.
Then press the enter key on your keyboard.
The WordPress dashboard opens.
Hover over Appearance and select the Themes tab.
Click the Add New button
You are going to upload your own theme, so click the Upload Theme button.
Navigate to where you downloaded your zip files of the Genesis Framework and Monochrome Pro theme.
In the themes dialogue you can see themes provided by WordPress. You are not installing any of those themes. You are going to upload and install your own theme.
- First: you must upload the Genesis Framework. But! Do NOT activate the Genesis Framework.
- Second: upload AND ACTIVATE Monochrome Pro theme.
You do NOT activate Genesis!
After installing Genesis, click the link, “Go to Themes page”.
You’ve installed the Genesis Framework, now you need to install the StudioPress child theme, Monochrome Pro.
Click the add new button a second time, navigate to your Monochrome Pro theme zip file and install Monochrome Pro.
Navigate to, and install your StudioPress child theme, Monochrome Pro.
Now that Genesis is installed you can install Monochrome Pro StudioPress child theme.
Monochrome Pro is the child theme of Genesis. You DO want to activate Monochrome Pro. Click the Activate link.
When you activate Monochrome Pro theme you get the option of automatically setting up your website using an install pack.
There’s little difference between the install packs, choose whichever you like.
It takes WordPress a few minutes to set up your website like the demo site.
Wait patiently until you see the tick marks and the two new buttons. Then view your new homepage.
Your site is now set up like the demo site.
This is just the starting point. In the next tutorials we’ll use the one click page layouts in Genesis blocks plugin, to make the site look much more professional.
That’s it for this tutorial
In the next tutorial we’ll add about us and services pages and remove some of the pages we don’t need from the demo content.
