Altitude Pro

June 17, 2021 by PhilG

Altitude Pro has been a popular theme for a long time. It does not have an automatic setup wizard, but you can use one of the Genesis Blocks homepage layouts to build a good looking homepage in just a few seconds. However, you will need an additional plugin to remove a built in gap at the top of the home page.

If you use Genesis Blocks page layouts with Altitude Pro theme you get a top gap

This is easily removed using this plugin.

When using Genesis Blocks you get a gap at the top of the page. Fullwidth Templates for Any Theme & Page Builder plugin fixes this.

Two ways to set up the theme

The old way
Altitude Pro has a widgetised homepage. There are seven homepage widget areas, and if you want to, you can build your homepage by adding content to these widget areas.

The new way
A much easier way to build a homepage is to use one of the Genesis Blocks ready made full page layouts. It only takes a few seconds and the layouts have many more customization options than the old widgetised homepages.

Assigning the full width template to a page.

The plugin you need

Don’t forget, if you build the homepage from Genesis Blocks layouts you’ll need to use the full width template for any theme or page builder plugin.

Then in the WordPress sidebar choose FW Fullwidth template.

Altitude Pro has these widget areas…

  • Primary sidebar.
  • Front Page 1 to 7.
  • Footer 1.
  • After Entry.

The primary sidebar and after entry widget areas work in the same way as the Genesis Sample theme. Footer 1 widget area spans the fill width of the footer. If you put two widgets in the footer, they will stack one above the other.

Front Page 1 to 7 widget areas

If you’re still using the WordPress classic editor, you can still use the front page 1, to front page 7, widget areas to build the front page. But this out of date method is a lot of hard work compared to using the Genesis Blocks plugin.

If you want to know how to set up the homepage using widget areas, see this tutorial.

Customiser extra tabs…

The front page background images tab in the customiser.

These 1600×1050 images display behind homepage rows 1,3,5 and 7.

If you use the widgetised homepage, these images display as background images on the front page.

To upload an image logo in Altitude Pro, go to: Dashboard > Appearance > Header Image.

The header image size is 720×152 pixels. The logo will display at one half of this size, so it looks good on retina screens.

Menus…

  • Before Header Menu.
  • Header Menu.
  • Footer Menu.

These display above the header, to the right of the logo (header right) and above the footer credits.
